Families are a vital part of Cascade Canyon. Research has shown that children do better academically and socially in schools where family involvement is high. Parent volunteering has long been a tradition at CCS. Our board, drawn from both elementary and middle school families, plays an integral role in supporting our school. In addition, parents serve as room parents at each grade level and help coordinate essential chaperone responsibilities for daytime and overnight trips. Where interest and need meet, parents can also be found sharing their talents with students and supporting classroom instruction.
Throughout the year, there are numerous opportunities for CCS families to gather with their children, including the Halloween Parade and Haunted House, Variety Show, Grandparents and Special Friends Day, and Winter Celebration as well as poetry, music and theater events. Every year, several families participate in an unofficial ski trip during the Marin Luther King, Jr. Holiday.
There are also gatherings for parents, including monthly parent coffees with Michelle, the yearly auction, and talks sponsored by the Parent Association, such as a recent conversation about ways to talk with children about challenging stories in the news.
Whatever your interest and talents, we welcome and encourage your involvement!
Many all school gatherings and performances give children the opportunity to speak and perform in a warm and nurturing environment. The staff and head of school are very accessible, and the whole school feels like a family. I have also been so impressed with the sensitivity, kindness, maturity, and creativity of the middle school kids and the way they are care for the younger kids. We feel grateful to have landed at Cascade Canyon, where the students feel challenged and engaged but also nurtured and free to be themselves.
